About – Laurium Jewelry

ABOUT

LAURIUM was founded in 2019 by designer and metalsmith Irini Koukoula. Named after Lavrio, the historic mining town in southeastern Attica known for its silver mines since antiquity, LAURIUM creates handcrafted fine jewelry that balances traditional craftsmanship with a modern point of view.
The collection focuses on signets, sculptural rings and distinctive stonework, drawing inspiration from archaeology, natural forms, history and personal memory. The work is shaped by an intuitive, hands-on process rooted in wax carving and traditional jewelry making techniques, giving each piece a strong sense of texture and form.
All jewelry is handcrafted in Athens with an emphasis on wearability, longevity and timeless design. LAURIUM pieces are made to be worn everyday and kept for years to come.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Irini Koukoula studied Film at Kingston University before moving into jewelry and metalsmithing. Her interest in visual storytelling and symbolism continues to inform her design approach.
In 2015, Irini began training as an apprentice alongside master craftsmen, focusing on traditional techniques and wax carving. After several years at the bench, she founded LAURIUM in 2019, where she works as both designer and maker.
Her work combines sculptural forms, historical references and natural textures with a focus on craftsmanship and materiality.

MATERIALS

All LAURIUM jewelry is crafted in recycled 14k and 18k gold and incorporates carefully sourced precious and semi-precious stones, including diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and tourmalines. Each piece is made to order or produced in small quantities, alongside an evolving selection of one-of-a-kind and ready-to-ship pieces.

The jewelry is designed to be worn every day and made to last. Each piece is handcrafted in Athens using traditional jewelry-making techniques, with a particular focus on wax carving. No CAD or 3D printing is used in the process.

Gemstones are sourced through trusted suppliers, with antique, vintage and reclaimed stones used whenever possible. LAURIUM works exclusively with ethical natural diamonds and does not use lab-grown diamonds.

Each piece is finished with the LAURIUM maker’s mark and its corresponding gold purity hallmark.
